Controlling of L-Band Switch Matrix

Overview

  • Headquarter of e.g a tv broadcaster which receives transmissions from other television stations or SNG vans via satellite
  • A number of moveable and fixed antennas
  • Multiple Digital Receiver (IRD) with different features (e.g. encryption)
  • Every antenna can be assigned to every IRD

Network structure

  • Primary M&C Server controls the devices
  • Backup M&C Server synchronises the current configuration with the primary server
  • The user can access the system from an unlimited number of client PC's
  • In case of trouble with the primary server, the serial connections to the devices are switched over to the backup server and the system is ready to use in a few minutes

Using the M&C system

  • Select the antenna and point it to the satellite (left)
    • If the antenna is already locked, it cannot be moved anymore
    • Easy pointing with a set of predefined satellite positions (presets)
  • Adjust the receiving parameter of the IRD Chain
    • manual setting of frequency, symbol rate, etc.
    • or loading of predefined presets
  • The system selects automatically the L-Band In- and Output of the Switch Matrix regarding the current antenna, frequency and polarization selection.

IRD Chain Device

  • Logical device to simplify the handling without knowing how the ports of the matrix are connected to IRD's and antennas
  • The IRD selection defines the output port of the switch matrix
  • The selected antenna, frequency and polarization defines the input port of the switch matrix
  • IRD Chain carries out the LO-frequency translation
  • Used IRD Chain can be locked
