SatService GmbH operates a small sat-nms network management system for demonstration purposes. This demo NMS is connected to the Internet. You may install the user interface software on your computer and access the demo NMS via Internet.
At the moment, the demo system is only available with a limited number of connected devices.
VLC0003 monitors the following equipment:
- Comstream CM701 SCPC Modem
- Wegener Unity TT1260 IRD
- SatService sat-nms PS PowerSensor
- SatService sat-nms ACU-ODM Antenna Controller
- The Java Runtime Environment by Sun Microsystems Inc.
- The sat-nms user interface software (client)
To connect yourself to the demo NMS, you need an unrestricted access to the Internet. If you are not sure if your computer can access the demo NMS via your company's network firewall, first try to access the user manual on this site. If the link above works, you will be able to operate the demo NMS from your computer.
Installing the Java Runtime Environment
You need the 1.4.2 version of the Java Runtime Environment installed on your computer in order to run the sat-nms user interface software. Go to java.sun.com to download the JRE. You need the international version of the JRE in any case, even if you live in the U.S.
The downloaded file is a self-installing EXE, simply double-click to the file to install the JRE. Follow the instructions given by the installer program.
Installing the sat-nms user interface software
The sat-nms user interface software is a Java program consisting of two files. To install the software carry out the following steps:
- Request the Demo-Client Software from SatService.
- Create a directory for the sat-nms software:

Running the sat-nms user interface softwareTo run the sat-nms user interface software, simply double-click on the file
c:\satnms\satnms.bat. You need a working internet connection to run the software successfully.
If you have questions regarding the demo system, do not hestiate to contact us. On request, we can send you the demonstration on a CD. It is a Knoppix-based bootable CD-ROM that starts automatically a simulation of a Network Management System. You won't need an internet connection to run this demo-CD and it works without installation on your hard disk.
